Unsealing of CR17 bank statements ‘could open can of worms’ – analyst
Updated | By Karabo Tebele
Political analyst Levy Ndou has warned that the unsealing of President Cyril Ramaphosa CR17 bank statement could also expose the financial records of other candidates and opposition parties.

The High Court in Pretoria on Tuesday ruled that the bank statements belonging to Ramaphosa’s 2017 ANC presidential campaign remain sealed.
Ndou believes the matter has been put to rest.
"I think it will depend on how serious does the EFF and other people want to see the matter going forward.
"What is very important is that from the proceedings in the previous hearings that we got, it is clear that there is no law that has been broken
"For now, the matter has been put to rest."
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) is expected to appeal the ruling.
However, Ndou has warned the unsealing of the statements might open a can of worms for other candidates and opposition parties.
"Also, on the other hand you have a situation wherein the interest of the public if you want CR17 statements to be unsealed, you might be opening up a can of worms wherein other people want to see other bank statements or funders of other individuals and political parties being unsealed.
"Whether we like it or not, there is funding in all these campaigns that are actually going on."
