South Africans vaccinated against Covid-19 can expect to be incentivised with access to sporting and entertainment events.
Health Minister Joe Phaahla briefed the media at the Chris Baragwanath Hospital vaccination site on Friday.
Just over 6 million people are fully vaccinated, while at least 12 million have received a jab.
Government officials led by Deputy President David Mabuza, as the chair of the inter-ministerial committee on vaccines, have encouraged South Africans to get vaccinated.
"We are looking at soft incentives, for instance, people are hungry for entertainment, music festivals, or to watch soccer matches, we are exploring opening up various activities, sports, cultural and business, and get-togethers to say if you are vaccinated so many people can attend.
"If you are vaccinated and can prove that we are exploring that people can go gather at places such as Newtown in Johannesburg and enjoy music. So that people can benefit above saving their own lives by access activities," said Phaahla
Phaahla said guidelines will be published on how these kinds of incentives would work.
