VBS: ANC can expect a dirty fightback

The ruling African National Congress (ANC) should expect serious resistance to its position against those implicated in the VBS Mutual Bank scandal.

This is the opinion of independent political analyst Ralph Mathekga.

He’s reacted to the recommendation by the ANC’s Integrity Commission that those allegedly implicated in the scandal and accused of being part of the looting of the Limpopo based bank, be removed from their positions.

Prominent ANC leaders named in the damning report include Limpopo Treasurer General, Danny Msiza, and the party’s provincial deputy chairperson, Florence Radzilani.

“They (the ANC) cannot just go into the elections without having done anything about senior allegations that involve their senior members,” says Mathekga.

However, he says the party can expect resistance from those named in the report and warns there are factions within the ANC who will say the Integrity Commission will have to wait for the legal recourse to be exhausted before they take measures against those implicated.”

Mathekga says the decision by the integrity Commission will lead to wider division and infighting within the ANC.
