Vehicle theft on the rise in Centurion
Updated | By Gaopalelwe Phalaetsile
Security company Monitor Net has warned that vehicle theft is on the rise in Centurion and surrounding areas.
The company’s spokesperson JP Le Roux says criminals are taking advantage of the lockdown period.
"Big syndicates are working, mostly over weekends when it is extremely busy because this is the time when people usually go shopping. Shopping centers are much busier during this time, although the theft of vehicles stull happens during the week but not as much as during the weekend."
He says the major crime hotspots include the Centurion CBD, Wierdapark, Eldoraigne, and Valhalla.
Toyota Hilux, Ford Rangers, Renault Sandero, Toyota Etios, and Corolla are some of the vehicles targeted by criminals.
Le Roux says theft from vehicles is also a concern.
