She was taken into police custody at the OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg on Sunday.

The South African Revenue Services (Sars) says the drugs were found hidden in Cuban cigar tubes.

Sars spokesperson Sandile Memela says the woman was travelling from Brazil.

The cocaine, weighing eight kilograms, was found in the woman's luggage.

She is expected to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate's court on Tuesday.

"We do not know whether she was using South Africa as a stop gap measure to proceed to other parts of the continent or the world," Memela said.
