Verulam rape suspect back in court

Residents of Verulam outside Durban in KwaZulu-Natal picketed outside the local magistrate’s court on Monday.
They were demanding that a man, accused of repeatedly raping his stepdaughter, be refused bail.
The 43-year-old man briefly appeared in court where his formal bail application was postponed until Tuesday.

The suspect also stands accused of keeping the girl captive for several months.
He faces other charges including sexual grooming and exposing a minor to pornographic material.
Community members said the man needs to be kept behind bars.
"There should be justice in this, and he doesn't deserve bail."
