Vincent Smith granted bail after arrest on fraud, corruption charges

Former African National Congress (ANC) MP Vincent Smith handed himself over to the police on Thursday morning.
Smith has been implicated in the corruption related to controversial facilities management company Bosasa and also testified at the commission of inquiry into state capture last year.
This is the second consecutive day of high-level state capture commission arrests after 6 suspects linked to the R255 million Free State asbestos audit tender were nabbed in three provinces on Wednesday.
National Prosecuting Authority's (NPA) Investigative Directorate spokesperson Sindi Twala says Smith has been charged with fraud and corruption.
"The Investigative Directorate, which has both arresting and prosecuting power, can confirm it has facilitated the arrest of a specific high profile who handed himself over at the Alberton police station this morning," said Twala.
Smith appeared in the Johannesburg Specialised Commercial Crimes Court sitting in Palmridge on Thursday morning and was granted bail of R30 000.
He is facing fraud and corruption charges for failing to declare some R600 000 which was paid by Bosasa to his company.
He also benefitted from a security system installed by the company at his Roodepoort home.
