Violence flares up in Joburg CBD amid metro police raids
Updated | By Lulutho Mkosi
The metro police in Johannesburg has closed down several roads in the CBD following protests against raids on illegal buildings.

Rahima Street and Von Wielligh street were closed on Monday afternoon following a outbreak of violence.
Metro police spokesperson Wayne Minnaar says the building was hiding alleged criminals.
“It’s called a bad building operation. It is a raid done by law enforcement on a building where criminals hide, where the building is occupied illegally.”

Minnaar adds that motorists have been diverted as law enforcement continues to monitor the situation.
Metro police says it’s unclear whether the protestors are occupants of the building.
