Several customers took to social media complaining of interrupted service from the network provider.

Eskom announced that it will implement stage 2 load shedding on Thursday.

Since then the embattled power utility has implemented stage 2 and 4 alternatively.

Vodacom spokesperson Byron Kennedy has warned customers that the problem is likely to persist until the power crisis is resolved.

"Vodacom is aware that many customers around the country will again be experiencing issues connecting to the network because of the stage 4 load shedding implemented earlier today.

"Our towers use batteries as a back-up but these do have limited power and will eventually fail."

Measures have been put in place to deal with the issue.

Dozens of residents were left stranded as a result. Earlier, the South African Weather Service warned of flooding in some parts of Gauteng due to the persistent rainfall since last week. Acting Social Development MEC Panyaza Lesufi visited the community crippled by the flooding, saying his department would provide assistance to the displaced residents.

"We have put pro-active measures in place to help mitigate the effects of widespread load shedding. For instance, we have deployed generators at over 1000 sites across the country and are working as hard as possible to keep customers connected,” Kennedy says.

The incessant rain in Gauteng over the past couple of days has seen several areas, including Mamelodi and Centurion, hit by flash floods.
