Free State police spokesperson Sam Makhele confirmed the incident occurred on Monday night.

"Yesterday evening around 9 o'clock, it was reported... that the clinic and the hall which is partially burnt were on fire. The police rushed to the area whereby they found that indeed the two buildings are on fire."

Makhele says no arrests have been made.

"Investigations are continuing but we can alleviate the fears of the community in the area that they will still be able to go and cast their vote. This won't hamper the voting process in any way as we have increased our deployment on the ground just to make sure that they keep an eye on things. The situation now is calm, we didn't experience any violent incidents from this morning.

"There are arrangements in place which are unfolding to make sure that people will be able to vote."
