Warrant of arrest issued for NWest traffic chief

The Wolmaransstad Magistrate’s Court has issued a warrant of arrest for its local traffic chief Judas Mahlangu after he failed to appear in court to face charges of fraud and corruption, the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) said on Thursday.
“A warrant of arrest was issued after Mr Judas Mahlangu failed to appear in court to face charges of fraud and corruption. A truck driver, along with who he was arrested, has alleged that he paid him to obtain fraudulent vehicle license discs,” said spokesman Simon Zwane.
Mahlangu, a traffic official at North West’s Maquassi Hills Municipality, allegedly connived with truck driver, Kobus Jordaan, and defrauded the municipality of R540,000 in unpaid licence discs, traffic fines and fraudulent discs.
The fraudulent licence discs were allegedly issued for Jordaan’s 39 trucks.
Mahlangu and Jordaan, 49, are out on R500 bail each.
The traffic official also faced further corruption charges relating to fraudulent discs in Mpumalanga. He was set to appear in the Balfour Magistrate’s Court in November. - ANA
