A bench warrant is an inactive warrant of arrest, according to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).

The NPA in Gauteng’s Phindi Mjonondwane says the warrant has been held over to October 4, when Matheba expected to appear again for alleged tax fraud.

"As a state we had a challenge that the summons were not served personally to Miss Bonang Matheba but were, however, served via her legal team.”

Mjonondwane says the court ordered that the arrest warrant be held so that she be given another chance to attend court proceedings.

A warrant of arrest will be served on her should she fail to appear in court on October 4.

South African celebrity Rapulana Seiphemo also appeared on Wednesday in the same court for tax invasion where his case postponed to October 18 for him to make representations to the office of the National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP).
