Updated | By Mmangaliso Khumalo
Mpumalanga Community Safety spokesperson Moeti Mmusi says police are investigating incidents where trucks were set on fire on the N4 on Sunday night.
Several trucks were torched in Mbombela following an accident that had occured on the N4 near Waterval Boven.
Mmusi says these incidents have been described as being criminal activities.
"I can't really say it is related to a protest action, but we are aware that there was an accident last night or early this morning and as a result whilst the traffic officers were responding to the matter, there were some criminal elements that took place and destroyed some of the trucks that were moving on that road at that time. Police are investigating."
He adds that no arrest have been made yet and investigations continue.
"Those who are travelling between Mbombela and Machadodorp are advised to use the Schoemanskloof Road as an alternative, but are advised to use the road with greater vigilance in the light of what happened at Waterval Boven."
