WATCH: E-hailing cab torched at Protea Glen Mall
Updated | By Mmangaliso Khumalo
Gauteng police are investigating a case of arson after an e-hailing cab was allegedly torched at Protea Glen Mall in Soweto.
The car was torched on Monday evening.
This is the latest incident in an ongoing battle between minibus taxi drivers and e-hailing operators.
Three vehicles were also set alight last week Thursday at Maponya Mall.
Police spokesperson Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi says the car was parked at Protea Glen Mall when three unknown men armed with firearms approached the driver.
“They allegedly ordered the victim out of the vehicle before torching it. The victim's cell phone was also taken. No suspects arrested as yet as police investigations continue.”
Meanwhile, Johannesburg MMC for Transport Kenny Kunene is expected to meet with station commanders of all the police stations in Soweto, with all representatives from Maponya Mall, in an attempt to calm the situation.
