To ensure that our city is kept clean, we need to work together. Cleaning up is not the responsibility of @CleanerJoburg alone, we are all responsible. #InnercityCleanup ^PS@GeoffMakhubo @mphomoerane pic.twitter.com/4J1AQ03lUh

According to Moerane, the “KleenaJoburg” campaign aims to ensure participation and cooperation from the City’s residents and the private sector.
"This campaign is aimed at getting our citizens to be more conscious about the environment and how their behaviour, attitude, and actions can have a positive impact on our climate," said Moerane.
The operation used an "adopt a block-by-block" strategy that covered Plein, Risk, Claim and Wolmarans streets.
Pikitup availed hundreds of employees with compactors for the operation.
"Post the cleaning about 60 JPMD officers will be deployed to enforce by-laws against littering and illegal dumping to ensure that the cleanliness levels achieved are sustained," said Moerane.
Litter does not just come from nowhere, it is us, the people who litter. Dumping therefore becomes a health hazard. #InnercityCleanup ^PS@GeoffMakhubo @mphomoerane@CleanerJoburg pic.twitter.com/qusOPLF2eT

It is important that people understand the disadvantages of their actions. Littering is bad and there are no excuses 🚮. #InnercityCleanup @GeoffMakhubo @mphomoerane @CleanerJoburg ^PS pic.twitter.com/jgFPWagT9V
