[WATCH LIVE] National Assembly votes in new Speaker
Proceedings are underway at the National Assembly in Parliament where a new Speaker is set to be elected.
This comes after former Speaker Thandi Modise resigned to take up her new position as Defence Minister.
The African National Congress (ANC) has nominated former Defence Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula; while the Democratic Alliance (DA) nominated its Parliamentary Caucus Chairperson Annelie Lotriet.
Voting will take place by way of a secret ballot where Western Cape Judge President Justice Hlophe will preside over proceedings.
