Maile said the project started two years ago when Gauteng Premier David Makhura promised the community new houses in the area.
The project is expected to produce 17 000 houses and so far, close to 1200 homes have been completed.
"We are looking forward to completing this project in the next five to seven years, we are already building 1200 houses a year, and we want to upscale that," said Maile.
The MEC remains uncertain as to how much the project will cost, although he believes it will cost the provincial government billions of rands.
"It is not about houses, we are starting a completely new settlement here. There will be social amenities, there will schools, clinics, roads, malls and economic opportunities."
