WATCH: Storm plunges parts of Tshwane into darkness
Updated | By Mmangaliso Khumalo
Several parts of Tshwane began the week without electricity due to infrastructure damage caused by Sunday night’s storm.
The city said it is working around the clock to restore power to residents.
The storm came followed a week of sweltering heat over central parts of the country, including Gauteng.
City spokesperson Selby Bokaba said the storm resulted in a massive restoration backlog.
“To ensure that the backlog is addressed speedily, since this morning, the city has deployed maximum resources to the affected areas. Technicians were grouped according to areas of deployment in order to reduce travelling distances between service requests, thus shortening the restoration time.
“We are committed to ensuring that power is restored to all our consumers as soon as it’s practically possible. To this end, we plead with our customers to exercise patience while we strive to reduce the backlog.”
