WATCH: Tshwane council descends into chaos over speaker
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
The Congress of the People (Cope) has called on ANC President Ramaphosa to condemn the behaviour of his party’s councillors in Tshwane.
This after ANC councilors were seen in a video brawling with council speaker Murunwa Makwarela and DA councillors.
The brawl took place at a Tshwane council sitting on Tuesday.
Dr Makwarela is Cope's regional leader in Tshwane.
Cope spokesperson Dennis Bloem says their actions and behaviour are far from what is expected of public representatives.
"We know that these ANC hooligans refuse to accept the fact that they are no more in power, and their modus operandi is to disrupt the functioning of all councils where they have lost power.
"They are having thugs as councillors who beat up elected public representatives who want to change the lives of the people. These ANC hooligans must forget to think that the speaker and the coalition government will be intimidated and dance to their tune."
The city of Tshwane Council could not be reached for comment.
