[WATCH] Union makes claim of discrimination against Eskom board member

The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) has accused an Eskom board member of discrimination during his time as the chief nuclear officer at Koeberg.
The union claims Clive le Roux told one of their shop stewards Phumzile Mvovo during a meeting that women “were not designed or geared up to strategically” for certain positions.
Mvovo made the comments in a meeting at Eskom’s Megawatt Park headquarters in Johannesburg on Thursday.

The meeting saw MPs on Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Public Enterprises, Mineral Resources and Energy and the Select Committee on Public Enterprises and Communication discussing the country’s energy crisis with unions.
“Clive le Roux was the chief nuclear officer at Koeberg Nuclear Power Station at that time because this was a very long time ago,” Mvovo told MPs.
“At the time Koeberg had about 23 E-band managers compared to other stations which could’ve had one. Koeberg alone had 23 and none of those 23 were women. The approach we had was what is wrong with women for you to not even consider them for this position?”
#Eskom Chief nuclear officer at Eskom and current board member Clive le Roux has been accused of having a misogynistic attitude against women.

Several of the parties present at the meeting, including the EFF, made it clear that Le Roux, who is now an Eskom board member, needs to respond to the allegations.
