Water levels continue to rise in Kruger National Park
Updated | By Mmangaliso Khumalo
SANParks says rising water levels have led to the temporary closure of roads south of the Kruger National Park.
Ongoing heavy downpours have seen water levels in rivers and streams around Mpumalanga from last week.
SANParks spokesperson Ike Phaahla says the park is busy with evacuations and have closed some areas.
“We are currently busy with an evacuation at the Talamati rusty camp as water from upstream is rapidly rising. The Skukuza Golf Club is also closed. We call upon tourists to cooperate as this is stretching our first responders and do not remove road barricades and do not travel anywhere unless it is essential.”
Phaahla has urged visitors to check with management before attempting to leave camp.
“Tourists are urged to first check with the rest camp management who are in contact with the joint operation centre. This as intense rain is still focused for tonight (Sunday) so our disaster management team remains on high alert.”
