Water supply to several Tshwane reservoirs to be shut down
Updated | By Martine van der Walt Ehlers
Rand Water is pleading with Gauteng metros to manage water consumption, which it claims is exceedingly high.
The plea follows an emergency meeting between the water utility and all metros in the province on Saturday morning.
According to the water utility, its water supply system is experiencing a severe strain, which can possibly lead to a total system collapse.
"The system is currently below 30% and an immediate intervention is required prompting urgent shut-down of water supply to certain reservoirs in Tshwane," explains City of Tshwane spokesperson, Lindela Mashigo.
"The city is observing high water consumption/usage which exacerbates the situation.
"Furthermore, the city is currently exceeding its limit in terms of the bulk water supply allocation.
"Residents are therefore requested to assist to avoid the system collapse by using water wisely, sparingly and when it is absolutely necessary."
