Weather keeps KZN paramedics busy

Spokesman Robert Mckenzie said the service would remain on high alert over the weekend as strong winds and heavy downpours were expected to batter the province.

 

He said that on Thursday night EMS, which is the provincial ambulance service, responded to numerous weather-related accidents.
In Durban's Inanda area, paramedics took a woman to hospital after she was seriously hurt when a mudslide caused a wall of a house to collapse on her.

 

In the north of the province, in the Umkhanyakude district, two women were injured when their house was struck by lightning.

 

A teenage boy was also injured in the Mosveld area when his house was also struck by lightning.

 

Mckenzie said paramedics were called out to a number of car accidents across the province as a result of the weather.

 

"An accident in the Zululand district sadly left three people fatally injured. The circumstances around this accident are not known and are being investigated by the police," he said.

 

"As EMS we are still on high alert, especially [because of] high wind speeds predicted, with a strong southerly wind already blowing and downpours expected to continue into the weekend," he said.
