WEATHER: Snowfall expected in parts of SA

The South African Weather Service has issued a warning of heavy rain that is expected in parts of the Eastern Cape, Free State and KwaZulu-Natal.

Disruptive snowfalls are also expected in parts of KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape and the Free State.


Gauteng: Cloudy at times, otherwise partly cloudy, cool and windy with isolated afternoon and evening showers and thundershowers but scattered in the south where it will be cold.

Mpumalanga: Cloudy and cold to cool with fog patches and drizzle along the eastern high ground, with isolated to scattered showers and rain on the Highveld in the afternoon.

Witbank / Emalahleni: 05 / 17


Limpopo: Cloudy and cool with fog patches and drizzle along the eastern and northern high grounds. Isolated showers and thundershowers expected over the western and central parts by evening.


Polokwane: 06 / 16


North West: Cloudy in the east and north-east at first, otherwise partly cloudy becoming cloudy and cold to cool with scattered showers and thundershowers but isolated in the extreme west and north-east.

Free State: Very cold in places in the east and south, otherwise partly cloudy becoming cloudy and cold with scattered to widespread showers and thundershowers with snowfall on the southern and south-eastern high ground.


Bloemfontein: 03 / 08


Northern Cape: Very cold in the south, otherwise fine and cold becoming partly cloudy in the east with isolated showers and thundershowers but cloudy on the southern high ground.


Kimberley: -2 / 11


Western Cape: Fine in the west, otherwise cloudy and cold with scattered showers and thundershowers but widespread along the south coast spreading to the south-west coast in the evening where it will become isolated.


Cape Town: 08 / 16


Eastern Cape: Cloudy and cold to very cold with widespread showers and thundershowers. Snowfalls are expected over the the high ground.


Port Elizabeth: 07 / 17


KwaZulu-Natal: Fog patches over the interior, otherwise cloudy and cold with scattered to widespread showers and rain but isolated in the extreme north-east.
