Weekend murders in Cape Town at 43
Updated | By Sinethemba Madolo
A total of 43 people were murdered in Cape Town in yet another bloody weekend in the Mother City.
The murders come amidst announcement that South African National Defence Force (SANDF) troops will be sent to the crime hot-spots in the city.
Provincial forensics services recorded these numbers between Friday night and Monday morning.

Western Cape MEC for Community Safety Albert Fritz says while most of the killings were gang-related, at least it was a decline from the previous weekend.
"These are statistics that we received on Monday morning at 6 o'clock. The weekend before we had a total of 55 murders that were registered in our mortuaries so there seems to be a decline to 43, but 43 murders is still a very big amount.
"Most the deaths happened in Mfuleni, in Mitchells Plain we also had, but mainly in Mfuleni. In Manenberg there was also some fatalities. They are not gang-related at all. 40% of them are gang."
Fritz says 143 people have been arrested in connection with the killings.
