Western Cape probing Covid-19 'super spreader' party
Updated | By Anastasi Mokgobu
Police in the Western Cape are investigating a Claremont bar and night club after a recent "super spreader" event saw more than 60 people test positive for Covid-19.
Most of the people who tested positive for the virus after attending the event at 'Tin Roof' are in matric.
Western Cape Premier Alan Winde says the province has identified 63 cases linked to the night club, which is situated in the southern suburbs of Cape Town.
"We have been informed that the required regulations and the required safety behaviours were not adhered to in this case.
"There are some other concerning allegations around this event, and we are now requesting a full investigation into this bar/club in question – including by SAPS and the Western Cape Liquor Authority."

Preliminary data indicates that a total of 37 grade 12 pupils, who attend various schools in the area, tested positive for the virus.
"Our teams have contacted all of the schools and are ensuring that the necessary protocols are being followed," says Winde.
"This event is not an indication that our province is experiencing a ‘second wave’. It is one cluster that demonstrates the potential for spread that continues even while our hospitalisations and deaths stabilise."
