A Saldanha Bay teacher has been shot and killed on school grounds by a man said to be her ex-husband, before he turned the gun on himself, taking his own life.
The 42-year-old woman was gunned down in the parking lot of Middlepos Primary School this morning.
Her ex-husband's body was found in a road near the school.
It's understood the teacher's two children and other pupils witnessed the shooting.
Western Cape police's Federick van Wyk says the circumstances around the shooting is being investigated.
Provincial Education MEC, Debbie Schafer says she's shocked and saddened.
"The school has made the decision to dismiss learners early and the school psychologist and social worker will be dispatched to provide counselling to those who are in need of assistance or who witnessed the event. The educators from Middlepos as well as the neighbouring school are severely traumatised by the event. Counselling and support will be provided."
