Torrential rain in Tshwane led to localised flooding.

“We had to advise people in informal settlements to the north of the city to evacuate and move to higher areas following flash floods,” says Tshwane Emergency Services’ Johan Pieterse.

Several houses were also damaged by a hail storm in Pretoria North.

In Johannesburg, the city’s emergency services continue to monitor low-water bridges.

“We will keep an eye especially on the low-lying areas, our informal settlements to make sure that we can be able to respond to any emergency that might occur in those areas,” says spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi.

Conditions on the roads are also dangerous and motorists are advised to exercise extreme caution while driving.

“Most of our roads are wet and slippery. Extend a safe following distance and obey the rules of the roads and arrive alive.”

Meanwhile, rain is expected to continue to fall over Gauteng and large parts of the country on Sunday.

“There are active storms over most the North West province and most of the Tshwane area in Gauteng.

“We are expecting more thunderstorms to develop in Mpumalanga,”  says South African Weather Services' Mbavhi Maliage.
“We also have a watch out for severe thunderstorms that are expected over the eastern parts of the North West province."

Warmer weather should return on Monday.

“At this moment we have no warnings that we are expecting. Temperatures will be rising just a bit on Monday, but by Tuesday conditions will be quite warm again,” says Maliage.
