President Cyril Ramaphosa says South African women continue to bear the brunt of the economic and financial consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Ramaphosa made the remarks at the Women Economic Assembly in Tshwane on Thursday.
"And it continues to be women who bear the brunt of the devastating impact that Covid-19 has had. We know that more women are unemployed than men,” Ramaphosa said.
"We know that poverty is higher amongst women and we continue to say that the face of poverty is the face of African women."

According to Stats SA, a whopping 47% of women in the country between the ages of 15-64 years old are economically inactive.
Black women account for 41% of that figure.
Ramaphosa said the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic can only be addressed through increased job creation.
"The pandemic's devastating impact on lives, jobs and livelihoods will only be addressed as we increase the incidents of more jobs that are going to be created.”
