The premier for the North West has not yet been confirmed.

Only two of the seven premiers are women - namely Mpumalanga premier Refilwe Mtsweni and Free State premier Sisi Ntombela.

In a statement, the Women's League says it cannot hide it's unhappiness about the appointments made by the ANC's National Executive Committee (NEC) on Monday, accusing the ruling party of not sticking to it's own gender parity policy.

The League adds they now plan on lobbying President Cyril Ramaphosa to appoint at least 60 % female ministers, when he assembles his new cabinet.

"We will also lobby the ANC deployment committee to ensure that minimum 60% of Chairpersons of Committees in parliament are women," reads the statement.

ANC spokesperson Pule Mabe says the NEC did also take the decision that there will be 60 % of female representation in provincial executives where premiers are men.

"Regardless of whether a premier is a male or female, the Speakers of all provincial legislature shall be women. We also said where a premier is a female, the 50/50 principle must still apply in the composition of the provincial executive council," said Mabe said.

Mabe also adds that young people must also play a greater role in the provincial executive council.
