Zondo commission hears how Mthethwa allegedly benefitted from slush fund
Updated | By Gaopalelwe Phalaetsile
A senior Hawks investigator has told the commission of inquiry state capture that Sports, Arts and Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa unlawfully benefitted from a crime intelligence secret service account.
Kobus Roelofse, who investigated several unlawful transactions by police officials, implicated Mthethwa on Wednesday.
He said the former finance head at crime intelligence Solomon Lazarus approved security upgrades to Mthethwa's private home in KwaZulu-Natal when he was police minister.
"There was a risk assessment done in 2010 on the premises at the instruction of (former head of crime intelligence) General Richard Mdluli. Colonel Dhanajay Naidoo submitted the claims to the tune of R200 000. There were three payments made.”

Roelofse told the commission he did not know whether Mthethwa was aware of the source of the funds, but Naidoo confirmed to him that Mthethwa was there when the assessment was done.
