Zuma to appeal permanent stay judgment
Updated | By Sinethemba Madolo
Former president Jacob Zuma will apply for leave to appeal the decision not to grant him a permanent stay of prosecution.
Zuma is facing charges of corruption, money laundering and racketeering linked to the multi-billion rand arms deal.
He was briefly back in the Pietermaritzburg High Court on Tuesday morning for day one of his trial.
On Friday, Zuma’s application to have a permanent stay of the prosecution was dismissed by the same court.

Prosecutor Billy Downer said the state will oppose the application as it is convinced there are no reasonable prospects of success.
"My learned friend will bring the application to overturn the permanent stay judgement and to that end that is process that has to take place going forward.
"We can tell your ladyship now that the state is going to be opposing such applications because we don't think that it should b brought now. And of course, that there will any reasonable prospects of success as well."
On Friday, a full bench of judges dismissed his application for a permanent stay of prosecution, saying he failed to prove to the court that there were no reasonable and probable grounds for his successful prosecution.
He applied for a permanent stay of prosecution earlier this year saying he does not have the financial means to continue with the trial, that he had been prejudiced and suffered reputational damage by unreasonable trial delays and that the case against him was politically motivated.
