Zuma: Brian Molefe not convicted of any wrongdoing

President Jacob Zuma says former Eskom CEO Brian Molefe, whose name featured prominently in the Public Protector’s State of Capture report, has not been convicted of any wrongdoing.
Zuma was answering questions in the National Assembly on Thursday.
The NFPs Mandlenkosi Mabika asked Zuma whether he intends appointing Molefe to his executive. Molefe resigned from Eskom following the release of the State of Capture report.
In a curt answer, Zuma said the appointment of anyone to the National Executive is the prerogative of the President.
Mabika followed up the first question by asking Zuma how a person of questionable ethics could be deployed to Parliament.
“If there are allegations and the person is supposed to be given a particular task by a party, why should the party say we cannot afford you this position because of allegations? If we follow your logic, where is the rule of law that says you are innocent until you are proven guilty? I don’t understand,” answered Zuma.
Agang SA’s Andries Tloumma then got into the act, telling Zuma that the presence of Molefe diminishes the dignity of the House.
But Zuma strongly disagreed: “The presence of honourable Molefe in this House does not diminish its dignity in any way.”
