Zuma ‘has made his own choices’: Motlanthe

Former ANC deputy president Kgalema Motlanthe says Jacob Zuma will have to bear the consequences of the decisions he has made.

Mothlanthe weighed in on the former president's decision to join the uMkhonto weSizwe Party.

The governing party on Thursday announced that it has requested Zuma to appear before its disciplinary committee next week.

Zuma was suspended by the ANC in January following his decision to support the newly formed MK party ahead of the May 29 elections.

However, his membership was not terminated.

“There are internal processes and procedures in the ANC based on its constitution and to the extent that former president (Jacob Zuma) claims to remain a member of the ANC,” Motlanthe said on the campaign trial in Gauteng on Friday.

“So, he has made his choices, and the organisation has to ensure that it follows proper procedure because, in all cases of ill-discipline, there are two standards to measure fairness; the first one is whether you have a substantive case against the individual and the second one is whether followed fair procedures, said Motlanthe.

“All of us as individuals, as leaders and members of organisations, write our own history by the choices that we make. So, he has made his own choices and that’s his history.”
