The meeting was called by Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng following claims of attacks on the judiciary.

Presidential spokesperson Bongani Majola said President Jacob Zuma was chairing a meeting between the executive and the judiciary.

"The meeting was requested by Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng and has been called to discuss working relations between the two arms of the state," he said.

In attendance was Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa as well as ministers and deputy ministers from the relevant portfolios.

They include Ministers Michael Masutha, Naledi Pandor, Lindiwe Sisulu and Edna Molewa.

Chief Justice Mogoeng was leading the judiciary delegation and was accompanied by Deputy Chief Justice Dikgang Moseneke as well as heads of other judiciary courts.

Majola said they hope that the meeting will enhance cooperation between the two arms of the state.

"We hope that they will affirm the doctrine of the separation of powers and that, going forward, they will tell the nation how they intend improving these working relations," he said.
