"We have taken a stance to give him that support until the case that is pending on him is over,” says Bishop Vusi Dube, from the Ethekwini Community Church.

Supporters are set to meet at Freedom Park in Pietermaritzburg on Tuesday morning.

Zuma failed to have his corruption charge dismissed after he had applied to the court for a permanent stay of prosecution.

A full bench dismissed the application by Zuma and his co-accused, the French arms firm Thales, with costs on Friday.

He is facing 16 charges of corruption, money laundering and racketeering relating to arms deal saga.

Zuma tweeted his support former Brazilian president and convicted fraudster Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in early October.

“Truth is mighty and will prevail,” was the caption of the tweet, loosely translated from Latin.
