The court is scheduled to hear an application by the commission of inquiry into capture to have him declared in contempt for refusing to appear before the commission.

In the papers, the commission wants the former president to be slapped with a two-year prison sentence.

Zuma's legal team is yet to submit answering affidavits.

uMkhonto Wesizwe Military Veterans Association (MKMVA) spokesperson, Carl Nieihius says Zuma's Constitutional Rights have been undermined.

"There is no attack by President Zuma on the constitution and his concern is that his rights are being undermined. There is also no constitutional crises, the defense of democracy grouping has created a fallacious crises to mobilise around and continue to launch attacks against President Zuma.”

The former president has indicated in a previous statement that he is willing to spend time in prison and will not appear before the commission unless deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo recuses himself.

Niehaus says they hope this will not be the case.

"We hope that will not be the case and that cool and calm minds will prevail. We hope the situation will be resolved without it leading to more upheaval and social unrest.”
