Two men have been arrested after a house robbery in Groenkloof, Pretoria, police said on Thursday.
They allegedly held up a diplomat's wife and a maid at gunpoint. "The men took a jewellery box, a television set, camera equipment, laptops and other computer equipment. They also stole the family's Toyota Prado," said Lt-Gen Solomon Makgale.
The robbery happened on Tuesday, Makgale said. The vehicle was later found abandoned in Brooklyn. The first suspect, a 32-year-old man, was arrested after a high-speed chase in Pretoria north.
A crow bar, a garden pick, gloves, a hammer and balaclavas were found inside the stolen Ford vehicle he was driving, Makgale said. "Police proceeded to his house in Amandasig and recovered a television set, video games, an abundance of jewellery, a safe which had been forced open, a Rolex watch and many other wrist watches, iPads, cellular phones, and a Hifi system."
The second man, 25, was arrested at a car wash in Mamelodi. A toy gun believed to have been used during the robbery was seized at his house. "Both these men are believed to have been involved in this and possibly other house robberies in and around the Pretoria area."
