At least 553 rhino have been killed in the country so far this year, with 345 poached in the Kruger National Park (KNP) alone, the environmental affairs department said on Wednesday.

At least 553 rhino have been killed in the country so far this year, with 345 poached in the Kruger National Park (KNP) alone, the environmental affairs department said on Wednesday.
"In the past week, 11 poached rhino were found in the Kruger National Park," spokesman Albi Modise said in a statement.
"The KNP continues to bear the brunt of rhino poaching with 345 rhino killed for their horns since January."
At least 65 alleged poachers have been arrested in the KNP, while 30 have been arrested in Mpumalanga, and another 30 in KwaZulu-Natal since the beginning of the year, Modise said.
Of the total number of rhino poached, 56 have been killed in Limpopo, 55 in North West, 53 in KwaZulu-Natal, and 37 in Mpumalanga.
Rhino have also been poached in Gauteng and the Eastern Cape.
