Hunt, who replaces Ernst Middendorp ahead of the new season, has penned a 3-year contract with Amakhosi.

The 56-year Hunt has four Absa Premiership titles to his name, having won it thrice with SuperSport United and once with Bidvest Wits.

Chiefs chairman Kaizer Motaung says Hunt’s previous successes in the league was the main motivation factor for his appointment.

“We looked at our situation and our needs before deciding on Gavin. He brings with him an abundance of experience, having coached about five teams in the Premiership and there is success wherever he has coached.

“We know Gavin always endeavours to learn more about the game by attending courses both locally and overseas. This knowledge will come in handy to guide our team. We are looking forward to him sharing his experience with the team.”

Middendorp was axed after Kaizer Chiefs suffered a late season collapse to lose the title to Mamelodi Sundowns.

The club will announce an assistant coach for Hunt in due course.
