American Sloane Stephens was cheerfully talking about the aftermath of her US Open quarter-final victory Tuesday when a flying insect had her jumping out of her chair.

Stephens dispatched Latvian 16th seed Anastasija Sevastova 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (7/4) and was talking at a news conference after the match when she was interrupted by a bug that began flying near her.

"Ah. That is so disgusting," Stephens said as she slid to her right and out of her chair, only a table top and chair back to be seen as she went low to avoid the pest.

"It looks like a dragon," she said. "That is so disgusting."

She carefully returned to her seat only for the pest to make one more dive at her before being waved away.

"OK, that was so disgusting. Wow. Sorry. What was the question?"

The new one was "So do you have a thing with mosquitos and the like?"

"Yeah, I don't like bugs," she said. "It's so disgusting. I don't know where that came from."
