Duncan takes charge of FS Currie Cup side
The directors of the Free State Cheetahs (Pty) Ltd. decided to appoint the Director of Rugby, Rory Duncan as head coach of the Toyota Free State Cheetahs for the Currie Cup competition.
The announcement was made by way of a press statement on the Toyota Free State Cheetahs official website.
Franco Smith was appointed as one of the assistant coaches of the Springbok team earlier this year but is still the head coach of the Toyota Cheetahs for Vodacom Super Rugby. Smith will, however, be available as advisor and consultant to the Toyota Free State Cheetahs team during the Currie Cup competition.
Free State Rugby is not taking the Currie Cup competition lightly and felt it necessary to appoint a senior coach in this position. Duncan was the head coach of the Toyota Free State Cheetahs for the 2014 Currie Cup season.
MJ Smith, the current coach of the Toyota Free State XV in the Super Sport Challenge competition and of the Toyota Free State Cheetahs u.21’s are promoted to backline coach of the Currie Cup team to fill the gap that Franco will be leaving.
The rest of the coaching staff will remain the same. The team will be following the same character, culture and approach and the company is confident that the process will be positive.
