The Lions have confirmed that four players have tested positive for Covid-19.
This is a major setback for the Johannesburg franchise ahead of its Super Rugby Unlocked match against the Cheetahs at Ellis Park on Saturday.
All players are tested every week as required by protocol.
“These players, all of whom are A-symptomatic, have been removed from the squad,” the franchise said in a statement on Wednesday.
“All protocols have been kept and the relevant parties have been informed.
“We are ready and preparing for the Toyota Cheetahs at Emirates Airline Park this weekend. The team will be retested as per Covid protocols.”
The team to play the Cheetahs will be named on Thursday.
The Lions are second from bottom on the log, having lost both of their opening fixtures.
