Leopards drew first blood in the Vhembe derby after Roderic Kabwe scored from the penalty spot in the dying minutes of the first half.

The lead was cancelled by a cracker of a free kick from Rhulani Manzini in the 69th minute.

Coach Joel Masutha was happy with a point from the derby.

“In the second half after making some changes, we penetrated them more and also we knew that with the centre back who played very well, having Rhulani, we know that he is going to have a chance for a goal, and he scored a replica goal of the one he scored against AmaZulu.

“From there we never stopped, just that towards the end they nearly got us in the dying minutes. We lost a bit of concentration but otherwise the share of spoils is the fair result.”

Leopards coach Dylan Kerr was unhappy with the amount of set pieces his team gave away.

“It was a game of two halves, just like the game with Kaizer Chiefs. It is frustrating, I think in the first half we moved the ball very good and especially when Roderick took his penalty well.

“In the second half, I said that they are going to come at you and don’t give the ball away unnecessary in our half, and don’t give them free kicks and corners. The only way to score will be through a free kick and set pieces.”

The results leaves Tshakuma Tsha Madzhivandila in 8th place on the log, while Leopards are down in 14th position.
