Old favourite Cape Town City FC is reborn
Updated | By ANA
Fans who used to watch the now dead and buried National Football League (NFL) in the days of apartheid, must be fascinated that two of the club names which played in that League are now back – but in entirely different circumstances.
Highlands Park, regular champions in the whites-only NFL, recently won promotion from the National First Division – and now another old favourite, Cape Town City, has been resurrected and will play in the PSL next season.
This came about when well-known Cape Town soccer personality John Comitis announced he had bought the franchise of Mpumalanga Black Aces and was moving the club to the Mother City from Limpopo.
Comitis is the former Ajax Cape Town chairman and FC Cape Town director and at a launch on Wednesday at Cape Town Stadium said his new team will be called Cape Town City, with blue and yellow their home colours.
Comitis said at the launch: "We want to play exciting and adventurous football and ignite Friday football fever in the city."
