Downpour forces Leopards, Wits to play again
Updated | By AFP
Torrential rain forced the abandonment Wednesday of a Nedbank Cup last-16 tie at half-time with hosts Black Leopards leading Bidvest Wits 1-0 in Thohoyandou.
Lesedi Kapinga broke the deadlock on 37 minutes with a shot from the edge of the box, but the goal will not count with officials saying the cup tie has to be replayed in full.
"The match officials assessed the pitch at half-time and believed it would be dangerous to continue playing on it," a spokesman for the organisers said.
"An announcement will be made Thursday regarding a new date for the round-of-16 fixture," he added.
A further seven cup ties are scheduled for Friday, Saturday and Sunday with the clash between third-division The Magic and famed Kaizer Chiefs attracting most attention.
