Viljoen good for bronze
Updated | By Trevor Cramer
Viljoen added to the gold achieved by Wayde van Niekerk in the men’s 400m and Anaso Jobodwana’s bronze in the men’s 200m.
Viljoen produced a best distance of 65.79 metres with her fourth attempt, which temporarily moved her into the gold medal position.
Unable to improve that mark with her final two efforts, the South African was forced to settle for third place behind Huihui Lyu (66.13) in second, with German Kathrina Molitor taking gold with the final throw of the competition with a heave of 67.69.
Earlier in the day, Tanith Maxwell dropped out of the women’s marathon.
