The Emirates Lions host the BNZ Crusaders in their first ever home quarter final of the Vodacom Super Rugby tournament on Saturday 23 July 2016 at Emirates Airline Park. Kick-off is at 16:30.

Whiteley suffered a shoulder injury playing for the Springboks in the third Test against Ireland at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth and was initially ruled out for between six and eight weeks.

The Lions' position on the log is the highest it has ever been in Super Rugby. In 2001 they finished third (losing to the Sharks in the semi-final) and in 2000 fourth (losing to the ACT Brumbies in the semi-final) while in 1997 they ended in the 5th position on the log.
