Street robbery caught on CCTV footage in Edenvale

Street robbery is on the rise and it is best to be vigilant to not become a victim.

According to Statistics South Africa, housebreaking or burglary has consistently been the most common crime experienced by households in South Africa.
The second most common crime experienced by individuals during the five-year period is street robbery.
Males and persons living in the metropolitan areas were more likely to be victims of street robbery.

Knives were the weapon of choice used in 47,9% of the street robberies, while 34,7% involved guns.
One such street robbery happened in Edenvale. CCTV footage shows two men getting out of a white hatchback and demanding a woman’s handbag. After putting up a fight, she gave in and the robbers drove off.
