Many people, especially women, have given it a go and shared their results on social media, causing this trend to gain immense attention worldwide.

Patients insert botulinum toxin (botox) into their trapezius muscles (muscles located on the back of their shoulders). Many have shared their results, saying it has helped them appear slimmer and made their shoulders feel more relaxed.

According to New York-based plastic surgeon Dr David Safer, many people believe that botox can only be used on the face, but actually, “there are many other places that can benefit from it”.

“Botox can be used almost anywhere,” he explained. “A new trend is to inject the trapezius muscles in the posterior neck.”

“Botox works by blocking the signal between the nerve and muscle. When injected into the trapezius muscle, the muscle shrinks from decreased stimulation, giving the neck a thinner, more contoured appearance.”

This procedure is not only for aesthetic purposes but also for pain and tension relief.

“Botox can also be used to target muscle pain or trigger points, which gives patients significant relief,” he added.

Here's a before and after:

@suiteskinbyjillian This is me!! Getting my trapezius muscle injected! I’ve always had big “traps” and never knew there was a solution, until I discovered neurotoxin 💉 By relaxing the traps the muscle flattens in a downward direction ⬇️ creating an elonged neck, giving me that “swan neck” I’ve been wanting. Suggested dosage 30-120 units each muscle. Seen here I received 80 units to my left trap muscle. #trapezius #botox #jeuveau #botoxlongisland #botoxbeforeandafter #swanneck #longerneckline #trapeziusworkout #longislandbotox ♬ original sound - Jill Sarcona, Nurse Injector
